Mentors for Young Offenders

Aim of the project

The Brighter Tomorrow - Youth Mentoring Programme aims to increase confidence for young people who have been through the justice system to be self sufficient through increasing their practical and soft skill sets and help them re-integrate into society as active citizens in hope of also reducing the likelihood of reoffending.

This phase of the project focuses specifically on the mentoring of young people within the 18-26 age group and females who have been through the justice system.

Please note that the young people being mentored would have put their hand up to be part of this programme and have volunteered to do so, therefore will have a willingness to change, learn and improve.

Mandatory requirements to be a mentor

The mentoring requirements would be approximately 2 x 1 hour sessions per month and will span over 18 months or when they achieve their goals. Mentors:

• must undertake a reference and DBS check before being able to fully participate;

• at a minimum, undertake both trauma, mentoring and safeguarding training;

• be dedicated to meet the mentee at least twice a month for approximately an hour per session (video or in person); and

• keep a logs for each session to capture the progression of the individual and provide feedback for the purposes of evaluating this service and its effectiveness.

 All DBS checks, training and travel costs will be covered by Youth Mix.
